JEE Main is a popular entrance examination held at all India level for candidates seeking admission to the top engineering institutes in India. From 2019, JEE Main is going to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to B.E./B.Tech & B.Arch courses. NTA will conduct JEE Mains 2019 twice a year. It has also notified that the JEE Main merit list will be based on the percentile scores. The JEE exam 2019 will be held only in the online (Computer Based Examination) mode from 2019. NTA has revealed the dates for both the JEE exam slots for 2019. The online exam for January session was conducted between January 8 - January 12, 2019 & the exam for April session will be held between April 7 - April 12, 2019. 


Organised in two phases - Paper 1 & Paper 2, candidates can appear for JEE Main exam twice every year to get admission in the premier National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the prestigious Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) as well as other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). Students can use the best score out of the two slots for admission to engineering colleges in India. The programmes offered by these institutions are Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)/Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)/Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan).

JEE Main 2019 Eligibility Criteria

The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) will be held from 6th to 20th January 2019 for the engineering aspirants. It is an examination that requires both attention and certification from the candidates’ end. From form filling to preparation for JEE mian, all must be done properly so that no scope of rejection is left. Candidates planning to appear for JEE Main 2019 must fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the conducting authority. National Testing Agency (NTA) has defined the eligibility criteria in detail for the aspirants. As part of the JEE Main 2019 eligibility criteria, candidates will have to fulfil requirements related to the qualifying examination, the number of attempts, age, nationality, qualifying marks, etc.

It is also important for candidates to know that the exam conducting authority for JEE Main has changed. Earlier, the examination was conducted by CBSE but starting next year the exam will be held by NTA. Mentioned below are the updated eligibility norms as prescribed by NTA that must be fulfilled by all the aspirants without missing out any pointer. These eligibility conditions justify the essence of the courses that will be taken up by the engineering aspirants.

Eligibility Norms for JEE Main 2019

Number of Attempts in JEE Main:


Candidates get 3 attempts for JEE Main exam.

In order to get admission in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Gujarat and Odisha institutions, the number of attempts and age limit will be similar to the previous practices of their respective state level examinations.

Nationality


Candidates must be a Citizen of India.


For the ones who belong to the category of Non-Residential Indian (NRI) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) can also apply for JEE Main 2019, providing the category certificates at all stages of JEE Main.


Number of Subjects Required for the Qualifying Examination (Class XII):


It is compulsory for all candidates appearing for JEE Mains that they must have passed at least 5 subjects with the following Combination:

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their core subjects, Language and any other subject in their class XII examinations.

The candidates who have taken only four subjects are not authorized to write JEE Main exam, and if such candidates submit wrong information in JEE Main examination, their result will not be declared.

Marks Required in Class XII (Qualifying Examination):


There are no minimum marks required in class XII for writing the JEE Main exam.

Candidates should get at least 75% marks in class XII examination for admission in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) or they should rank in the top 20 percentile of their qualifying exams to get admission in other state government institutions.

For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, 65% marks are required in Class XII.

Date of Birth Criteria:


For General and OBC candidates whose birth date falls on or after 1st October 1994 will be eligible to take JEE Main 2019.

However, in the case of reserve category the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. people under the categories of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST), as well as Persons with Disabilities (PwD) who are born on or after 1st October 1989, will be eligible.

The birth date given in the Secondary Education Board/University Certificate will be considered.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (Class XII):


Only those who have cleared their Class XII examination or any equivalent qualification examination 2017 or 2018 will be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2019.

Also, the candidates who are appearing in class XII exam in 2019 or any equivalent qualifying exam can also apply for JEE Main 2019 exam.

Candidates who were unable to qualify for the class XII exam in 2017 but cleared the examination in 2018 will not be eligible to take JEE Main 2019.

Aadhar Card Criteria


Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2019 examination need not compulsorily mention details of the Aadhar card while filling up the application form. A notice issued by NTA has asked candidates to register any identification proof that can comprise of Passport, Bank Account Number, Ration Card Number, any valid Government ID or Aadhar Card. The form filling process for JEE Main has started and the candidates can now start filling it by entering details of valid and approved documents.


JEE Main Reservation of Seats 2019

JEE Main 2019 Reservation Criteria will be determined by the exam organising body. Based on the criteria, admissions will be organised in the participating institutes. The criteria for reservation in JEE Main 2019 will be applicable to the candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories, Person with Disability (PwD) category. The reservation criteria of JEE Main 2019 will also include criteria related to home state quota and other state quotas.

Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL)


Scheduled Castes (SC)


Scheduled Tribes (ST)


Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability
